Dry Tortugas National Park Ferry Adds Fuel Surcharge to Day Trip Ticket Price

Dry Tortugas National Park Ferry Service departing daily from Key West, Florida has added a $4.00 fuel surcharge. Due to the ever increasing price of diesel fuel, the National Park Ferry Service has raised the ticket price for the seventy mile trip to the remote park.

The Dry Tortugas Ferry provides daily service to the Dry Tortugas National Park and Fort Jefferson from Key West, Florida. One of the most remote parks in the National Park system, the park lies in the Gulf of Mexico, 70 miles west of Key West, Florida. Dry Tortugas National Park is home to the civil war fortress, Fort Jefferson, which is the largest masonry structure in the Western Hemisphere. This American maritme marvel took more than 30 years to construct, a period spanning three American presidencies.

The Dry Tortgas National Park is a nature lovers paradise. Designated a bird sanctuary in 1934 by Theodore Roosevelt, more than 300 species of birds migrate through the park each year. Hundreds of marine life species are found in the surrounding waters which are the very last of North America's largest coral reef system. The reef is in close proximity to the fort's sandy shore offering beautiful reef snorkeling in shallow, protected waters. Park visitors are welcome to tour this historic and fascinating island fort, picnic on it's parade grounds or simply lay in the white sand and stare at the sea.
One of the top ten excursions in the Florida Keys, visitors of all ages enjoy the popular day trip to the Dry Tortugas National Park. Seaplane service to the Dry Tortugas National Park is also available with daily scheduled flights. Park visitors travel in a 10 seat seaplane landing on the fort's beach.
